The impact of the fats to the cardiovascular diseases

Many excesses of the treatment of the cardiovascular diseases were achieved, but the main cause of death are in Czech Republic, in long

terms, diseases of the circulatory system, that resulted in 49.8 % of all deaths (23 532 men and 28 748 women (1). The decreasing trend of

the mortality of the cardiovascular diseases was written down at the beginning of the 90th of the 20. century, on the whole about 16 %

(2). This favourable trend continues and it is considered like the main cause of the extensing of the life expectancy in our country (3).

Life expectancy at birth increased by 0.3 year for men and by about a quarter of year for women. In 2008 a newborn boy was expected

to attain the age 74.0 years and a newborn girl 80.1 years (1). The position of the Czech Republic among the European countries remains

unchanged, it does not reach even the lowest values attained for both genders in West European countries and among the postcommunist

countries of Eastern and Central Europe it remains second behind Slovenia (1). One of the main risk factors of the cardiovascular

diseases were the disorders of the metabolism of the lipids. By the new results (4) a remarkable drop (1985–2009) in total cholesterol was

seen in both sexes (males: from 6.21 ± 1.29 to 5.29 ± 1.10 mmol/l; p < 0.001; females: from 6.18 ± 1.26 to 5.30 ± 1.07 mmol/l; p < 0.001).

Nearly 30 years ago, low rates of cardiovascular disease and high intakes of fish were found in Grenland Eskimos, Alaskan natives and

Japanese people residing in fishing villages (5).
