Heart failure is a frequent disease with a serious morbidity and mortality. The article summarizes new recommendations for pharmacological
therapy for chronic heart failure. The mainstay of treatment is to interfere with neurohumoral activation that plays a crucial role
in the pathophysiology of heart failure, in particular with beta blockers and ACE inhibitors; in the case of persistent symptomatology
with mineralocorticoid receptor blockers. The results of studies of the angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor appear promising. The
recommendations newly include ivabradine.
