Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of terminal renal failure in developed countries. Albuminuria precedes the development of manifest diabetic nephropathy in most diabetic patients and is also the most significant predictor of cardiovascular mortality/ morbidity in these patients. A variety of manifestations of peripheral nervous system involvement are commonly encountered. It is determined by a number of endogenous or exogenous factors. Differential diagnosis involves searching for possible causes and objectively determining the extent and degree of involvement (sensory or motor symptoms).
