Thyroid disorders are common diseases and, when untreated, are associated with significant health risks. On the contrary non-reasoned
treatment and levothyroxine overdose may have negative consequences, especially in the elderly. Correct diagnosis including
determination of etiology is always the precondition for effective treatment. The treatment is always individual with respect to age and
other circumstances and the patients should be followed up. Levothyroxine overtreatment should be avoided and subclinical hyperthyroidism
should be more frequently treated in patients over 80 years.
